Running of the Santas in New Orleans

Whoooaaa!  They are multiplying like wire coat hangers in my closet.  Santas.  Santas. Santas.  Hundreds of them outside my hotel in the historic Warehouse District.  And here comes Rudolph and elves too.

Today is the ‘Running of the Santas”.   This charity event started in Philadelphia when a group of friends decided to dress up in their Christmas ‘finery’ and go bar hopping.  Now sixteen years later, the event has spread to over 20 cities as far away as New Zealand.

I wouldn’t say the revelers are doing this for exercise.  This ‘fun run’ is only seven blocks long.  It all starts at 9am at Barcadia Bar and Grill at 601 Tchopitoulas Street with special holiday drinks, snacks and live music.  The actual run begins at 5pm. for those still standing and ends at Generations Hall at 310 Andrew Higgins Drive.

With a participation fee of $15 and VIP tickets for $25 a portion of the proceeds goes to support “That Others May Live Foundation” to provide scholarships and aid to surviving children of fallen U.S. Air Force personnel.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
